Day 1

Red Rocks and Glassy Waters

Morning: Adrenaline at Red Fleet Kick off your trip at Red Fleet State Park, often called “Little Lake Powell.” Surrounded by stunning Navajo sandstone, this is the ultimate spot for water-based thrills.

  • Boating & Skiing: The reservoir is famous for its glassy water, making it a dream for slalom skiers and wakeboarders.

  • Cliff Jumping: For those who prefer a literal leap of faith, the sandstone cliffs offer several spots for cliff jumping (always check water depth first!).

  • SUP & Kayak: If you don't have a boat, rent a paddleboard or kayak to explore the narrow coves and hidden sandy beaches.

Afternoon: Trail Time Once you’ve dried off, grab your mountain bike. The Red Fleet Loop trailhead is located just a stone’s throw from the park entrance. It offers a mix of flowy singletrack and technical rocky sections that will keep your heart rate up as the sun begins to dip.

Evening: Fuel Up in Town Head back into Vernal to refuel. With everything from local diners to classic burger joints, you’ll have no trouble finding a meal large enough to satisfy an "adrenaline junkie" appetite.

Day 2

Whitewater Wonders

Full Day: Run the Green River Rise and shine—it’s river day! Vernal is the gateway to some of the best whitewater in the West. Book a trip with a local guide to tackle the legendary Split Mountain Gorge.

  • The Rapids: Experience the rush of Class II and III rapids with names like “Moonshine” and “S.O.B.”

  • The Scenery: Between the rapids, you’ll float through towering 1,000-foot canyon walls. Keep a lookout for Bighorn sheep and soaring eagles.

  • Lunch: Most full-day guided trips include a riverside lunch, allowing you to eat with your toes in the sand.

Evening: Brews & Bites After a day of paddling, meander over to the Dinosaur Brew Haus. Indulge in mouth-watering food and local craft drinks—it’s the perfect atmosphere to swap stories about the day's biggest waves.

Day 3

Defy Gravity

The Main Event: Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata Today, you conquer the largest public Via Ferrata in the U.S. This is a vertical adventure that uses steel rungs and cables to allow you to scale cliff faces that would otherwise be reserved for expert rock climbers.

  • The Experience: You’ll be hundreds of feet in the air, crossing a suspended bridge and a "sky ladder" while looking down into the rugged beauty of Ashley Gorge.

  • Gear Up: This requires special harnesses and lanyards. We HIGHLY recommend bringing a pair of sturdy gloves to save your hands and wearing closed-toe shoes.

  • Guided vs. Solo: If you’re new to this, book a trip with a local outfitter for a safe and coached experience.

Day 4

A Modern Jurassic Park

Morning: The Wall of Bones It wouldn't be a trip to Vernal without visiting the "namesake" of Dinosaurland. Head to Dinosaur National Monument for an experience that feels like stepping into a real-life Jurassic Park.

  • Carnegie Quarry: Stand inside the Quarry Exhibit Hall and behold the "Wall of Bones"—a massive rock face containing roughly 1,500 fossilized dinosaur remains.

  • Get Personal: Engage with the stories of the Allosaurus and Stegosaurus that once ruled this land, and take the rare opportunity to actually touch bones still fossilized within the mountain.

Afternoon: Final Exploration Before heading home, take a quick hike on the Fossil Discovery Trail to see more "un-excavated" fossils in their natural state. It’s the perfect final "wild" experience before you hit the road.
